Regine with husband Dr. Wesley Fisher
|
Born in Moscow, Russia, Regine Rayevsky Fisher studied piano, choral conducting and voice there. While growing up she found that her love of music allowed her to escape from the weight of the all-pervasive communist regime, and she became more and more intrigued by the jazz, R&B, reggae, and rock & roll she heard over the Voice of America. Since immigrating to the United States, in addition to continuing her teaching of piano and voice, she has become a songwriter and poet. She has performed in venues in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and New York City. Her band RED presents a mix of musical styles to a reggae beat, from Russian folk songs to French chansons to American jazz and rock. Her debut album was entitled A Secret Told. She was voted one of the twenty best female songwriters in the Washington, DC area and competed at the 9:30 Club to perform at Lilith Fair. Her poems and short stories have won several awards.
